Hello, old LJ entries. Welcome to Dreamwidth! Where are the comments though? Did I ask for too much? Also, the vids seem to be gone for good too. It could have been worse... But it's still a viable B plan after all.

Hi Lisa,

I take it this is just a back up plan and you are not leaving LJ. I'm not all that familiar with DW but I'll try and remember how to friend you. If LJ finely pushes me over the edge I doubt that I'll start using DW, I think that I'll just wander off into the night

I had to do a second transfer to get some of the comments. They're still not there for all entries, but at least the entries didn't post twice on the second go-through.

Oh, so if I do the transfer again, I only get was was missed the first time? I was afraid to try it because I was afraid it would have doubled the journal.

It won't double the journal, just import some (or all, if you're lucky) comments. I'll probably give it another couple tries since I'm still missing a lot of the comments.

You can also back up your LJ by turning it into a .pdf file, and that does incorporate all the comments (not vids or graphics, though):

You only did the second import of data for the comments, or the whole thing?

Only comments, nothing else. But if you pick that option, it also automatically imports entries, tags, etc. - it won't post anything double, though. It seems to overwrite what's already there, i.e., replace it with a fresh copy.

Thank you! I'll give it a try!

I friended you back. I am fond of LJ and don't want to leave it, but it feels like anything bad can happen here, we really have no control over it, nor do the owners listen to our complains.

How did you import everything? I haven't ever tried....

There's an option on the Dreamwidth site that lets you import stuff from other journals, LJ included. It works well, but not for the comments - at least in my experience. I have tried twice to import the comments but it didn't work. Oh well, I am still glad I have a back up. I should move my fiction LJ there as well. It's dormant for the moment anyway.

Awesome, thanks! I'm trying to import my journal to back it up. The funny thing is, I had created a DW account awhile ago with a totally different username but I didn't want to import my lj into that account so I made a new one with the same username as I have here...

I've read in the DM news that there's a temporary problem with the import of the comments, but it will be solved soon. The thing is, it works and it's so easy. I like it.

Yeah I have to say I'm shocked by how easy it was to do this O_o I figured it would be some big hullabaloo but once I knew where to look on DW for the importation option, it was the crazy easiest thing ever.... wtf why have I never done this until now....

It's also easier to post there and crosspost here. Not to mention how easy is to personalize your page. I'll wait for the news about the comments coming again and I will try to bring them there too.

Friended you.
Are there any clouds on LJ horizon that I didn't hear of?

It's about the changes coming to LJ, with the new friends page and the problems with the paid accounts. Who knows what else the future holds for us, since we clearly have no say in it.
